Past Due Alert on Sales Order

I am trying to create and alert similar to this that we have on the customer record so the team printing pick tickets knows the customer is past due.

I created a custom field to pull in the past due amount from the customer record.

I then created a custom field to try and display a warning message at the top of the sales order. It is not showing and the outside columns at top will not save.

Does anyone know how I can get this to display?
