Why is the UPC Barcode adding a Prefix 0?

We have several 12 digit UPC's that begin with a 0. when we go to print the barcode label, it will add an extra 0. So 063344247685 is entered in the UPC field but becomes 0063344247685 on the bar code. and then when you scan it, it will not be able to find the item because it is looking for 0063344247685.
