How do I allow inline editing on a custom sublist?

Hi there,

Following on from this thread I have created a custom Sublist shown below.

In the tutorial it said that in order to make users able to edit the records inline, I needed to check the box marked 'ALLOW CHILD RECORD EDITING'.

However, instead of what was expected when in edit mode, the list now appears empty and all the data is displayed as formula in a text area above.

Has anyone encountered this before or perhaps knows what setting I've messed up on? Would be greatly appreciated as atm I'm just experimenting by turning different boxes on and off.
