Total inventory valuation in report with message "The results of this report are too large"

The inventory valuation report shows a message at bottom "The results of this report are too large. Please narrow your results" and shows the Total inventory valuation above this message. What does this total inventory valuation number mean? Is it still the total value of the inventory regardless of the message shown below or is it the total valuation of the inventory item listed in the report? I find discrepancies in the number I get from this report and from the saved search. I want to know which number is correct?
