Why is no barcode being generated on the item label?

HI there

How would I generate a bar code on an item label?

I have customised the standard item label PDF with the code from SuiteAnswers 68866.

The code had a lot of unprintable characters though even after removing them, I get this:

I was expecting something along the lines of
