Setup a Search for a 'Format Profile'

We utilize a BAI bank reconciliation and have a need to set the process to 'Inactive' on the first day of each month so that we can reconcile the previous month.

I can create a Workflow for the Format Profile record type, but I wish to set it on a schedule - and this means I need to have a saved search in order to do so.

I'm looking for advice on how to achieve such a search. I created one for the Financial Institution, but the WF doesn't recognize the search. I can't seem to find the right base to create the search that I need.
