Only show subentity on email template

Hi There

I have an email template with the field:

${customer.contact}.

My user preferences are 'To Show Only Last Subentity'.

This works as expected when I use the email template to send a message from the customer record.

However, when I send via a workflow (where I am the workflow owner), it shows the full company name and contact hierachy:

Is there a way to only show the last subentity when sending via workflow?
