Allow edit only to a specific field

One of our roles needs to be able to edit item records and enter/modify values in one of its fields.The problem is -- that role is only allowed for VIEW permission level on Item records.

Question:

Is there a way for a role to only have access/edit permission on that specific field only and should not be able to access/modify any other fields or sublists in the item record?
