Does anyone have any tips & tricks for changing the primary subsidiary on employee records?

Our company is merging all employee's and customers into one subsidiary. We are starting with the employee records. The only way I know to change the primary subsidiary is to create a new record and inactivate the old record. Is there anything that I am missing. Is there an easier way to convert the existing employee records to the new subsidiary? As always, any help is greatly appreciated.
