Average consolidated exchange rate calculation

I have used the solution detailed in SuiteAnswers Id: 46610 check transaction rates but can't get the calculation to match Consolidated Exchange Rate on the system.

I have recalculated the rates on the system but they still differ.

What I'm uncertain about is which rate the system uses to translate transactions that are dated outside the period but have been assigned to it. Does it use the rate for the date of the transaction or another one?
