ALLOW INVENTORY TRANSACTIONS DATED OUTSIDE THE POSTING PERIOD

On the Accounting Preferences page, can someone confirm that checking the "Allow inventory transactions dated outside the posting period" box DOES NOT allow posting of transactions to closed accounting periods?
