Due Date Task record Not Setting on Create

We want to use tasks to create repeatable accounting tasks. I have two custom fields. One pulls the start and end date that is related to the accounting period. The other is used to add or remove days from the end date of the accounting period and use that to set the due date. What I have noticed is it works when you edit the task. However on create it does not initially set the due date. It shows that it had a warning within the workflow. When should this action happen so that the due date is set on
