Hello,
TL;DR Question: Is there a workflow workaround for using Set Field Value on Before Record Load for existing records?
I know the docs say "You cannot set field values on an existing record if the Set Field Value actions execute on a Before Record Load trigger. Use the Set Field Value action with a Before Record Load trigger for new records or for setting workflow fields on new or existing records. Use a custom action to update fields on an existing record."
Can anyone point to documentation on what custom actions are and how I can use them?
My use case:
I'm trying to show the Primary Contact as a contact link on the customer record in real time. Since you don't actually update a record when you "Update Primary", I'm not sure how to do this without a schedule or having to modify the record first. (We currently have it set up to update on a schedule - but that will always have a delay/is confusing for end users).
The closest I can get to "real time" is creating a workflow that will change the display label on record load if the Primary Contact listed is outdated, then Set Field Value on Before User Edit to update to the Primary Contact.
I'm using the PC Test 1 field as a test field that shows the actual Primary Contact (custom freeform text field using formula {contactprimary.entityid}). Unfortunately, we can't use that field because we want to be able to click into the contact.
"Outdated" is the Set Field Display Label for the PC Test 2 field. This will show if the internal id of that field doesn't match a workflow field that houses {contactprimary.internalid}.
One you edit and save the record, the actual field name and Primary contact will appear.
If setting the Primary Contact as a contact link Before Record Load (real time) isn't possible as a workflow, is this something I can accomplish with a script?
Thank you!
