What is Firmed and Status on work orders? Regarding MRP items and planning workbench.

Just getting my head around building assembly items that use MRP, how they interact with the planning workbench and how to use it to order the components.

When creating a build order I don't understand the purpose of the Firmed checkbox, could someone explain this further please?

Planned work order status is displayed as either Open or Firmed.

  • Firmed planned work orders are not deleted before supply planning runs.
  • Check this box to firm the order.
  • Open planned work orders are deleted before supply planning runs.
  • Clear this box to keep the order open.

I'm not sure what a supply planning run is to begin with.
