Lot numbered inventory in a retail environment

edited Jun 2, 2025 2:43PM in Ask A Guru 2 comments

Hi All,

I was wondering if any of you are currently utilising lot numbered inventory in a retail setting, and if so how are you getting around tthe inability to allow lot numbered inventory to reach negative values.

In this particular use case it will a 3rd party POS integrating to NS and creating a cash sale in NetSuite.

Allow me to provide some context behind this inquiry:

In a typical retail scenario, imagine a customer standing at the checkout with a can of Coke in hand. Naturally, the cashier should be able to complete the sale, even if the system indicates that there's zero stock. After all, there's clearly at least one can in stock because the customer is physically holding it and intending to purchase it.

Howdy, Stranger!
