Consolidate Child Entities on Report

Hello.

I would like to update my P&L report to consolidate two children subsidiaries into one consolidated roll-up. The only way I am seeing that is to update general preferences to "allow subsidiary hierachy to be modified" and then change the parent on the subsidiary record. This seems a bit drastic as it comes with a warning message that it could effect prior financial statements. Please advise.
