sourcing a custom field on purchase order line from item sublist

Can I source a field on a purchase order line from a sublist on the item?

We have a vendor code (partnumber) on the vendor sublist of the item we want to bring to the purchase order line, and I don't see those fields when I select source from item on the custom field sourcing rules. I can bring the vendor to the PO line, but not the code.
