Applying CSS to a search column via a linked file

Good Morning,

I know it is possible to apply CSS styling to HTML in a Formula(HTML) column in a search but due to character limits on that field I need to be able to hold the CSS separately in a file and reference it, I tried to do this by including

<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="my file url=.css"/>

But the Style doesn't get applied to the html code, does anyone know if it is possible to do this?
