Assembly Work Order data from Sales Order

Hey all. I had to create a customer "Lot number" field in our system because the native version won't start on an SO. The Item on said SO will be a 2 line Assembly. I need this custom Lot Number field data to end up on at least one of the lines of the Assembly WO. I'm not seeing a great way to make that happen. Does anyone have any non-scripting ways to make this happen?
