Can you set up a different auto numbering for Customers and Vendors under a subsidary?

I have 2 subsidiaries.

Sub 1 as Cus number starting at 1001 but for Sub 2 I would like Cus Number to start at 5001.

Can this be done? I see under setup auto numbering, and I see the starting number, but when I change the number their it is changing if for both Subs.
