Using Production Start Date (startdate) on an Advanced HTML Template

I'm building an Advanced HTML/PDF Template for a Bill of Materials. I've got everything working except production start date. The field ID is startdate. I've tried using ${record.startdate} but it is blank on the printed form. ${record.trandate} works fine for the transaction date. Any ideas?
