Is there a limit for Workflows running?

hi community,

is there a limitation in the amount of workflows running and what's the max amount of instances per day ?

We recently found that we have 6.5M historical workflow instances, which even though didn't affect anything it's been highlighted as something that need to be improved. is there any documentation related to this?
