How to show parent assembly/s on member item record?

Hi There,

I am trying to customize a field that would populate the parent assemblies that an inventory or sub-assembly item is part of.

I was able to create a multi-select field but that required the user to add the parent assembly manually, which is not ideal. Is there a way I can automate that?
