Set Field Value when an Opportunity Status changes to Closed Won from a Sales Order creation

I created a workflow to set field value using the system log date when the opportunity status changes to Closed Won. The workflow triggers when the status is updated manually, but it does not trigger when a sales order is created from opportunity even though the status changes to Closed Won. Would someone be able to help me? Thank you.
