Special Order/Create PO from SO Line for an Assembly item

I have done some digging/searching with no success. Is there a way to create a purchase order from a sales order line for an Assembly item? We out source a few assembly items and want to be able to generate a PO from our Sales Order Line for these items. It appears there the special order tick box is not available for assembly items.

Our outsource vendor procures their own raw materials, we just issue a PO and they make it and send it to us. Now we manually add the item to a PO, but want to automate this like creating our in house WO's from the SO Line.
