Edit Custom GL Posting Segment on IR transactions when AP is closed

I updated a custom segment on an IR transaction in a closed AP period. It did NOT update the GL lines, even though GL is still open. Is the correct functionality?

Would I be able to update the segment if I were to open AP again? SuiteAnswers leads me to believe I will not be able to update the segment.
