Impacts of using custom project Task Status

Hello,

Can anyone tell me if there are impacts of using Custom Project Task Status?

Native Project Task status are not customisable and we need other values to correctly reflect the status of our tasks.

Can this just be hidden — will it affect any reports, or the status of the Project itself?
