Setting SO line Supply Required By Date

We are testing MRP. One issue we have is the SO line Supply Required By Date is set to the transaction date by default. We often receive orders that do not need to ship, or must not be shipped, early. Therefore, we need the Supply Required By Date to be set to the customer's required date. If we do not do so, we risk shipping to early. And, when we delay shipping, MRP indicates that order is late. The only way we can see to set the Supply Required By Date is manually through the UI. But that isn't practical
