Best Practice for UOM + BOM in Tape Converting (JUMBO → LOG → ROLL)
We’re implementing NetSuite for an adhesive tape converting operation and need guidance on UOM + BOM structure.
Manufacturing Flow:
RAW WEB (cost driven by m²)
→ JUMBO
→ LOG
→ FINISHED ROLL
→ CASE
Challenges:
• Cost is area-based (m²).
• Slit yield varies by SKU (no fixed conversion ratios).
• Rolls per log vary by width.
• Rolls per case vary (24, 36, 48, 72, 144, etc.).
• We sell rolls and cases (Amazon + B2B).
We want to avoid misleading static UOM conversions.
⸻
Questions:
1. Should m² be used only at the RAW level, with JUMBO / LOG / ROLL tracked as units (each)?
2. Should all conversion logic live in the BOM rather than UOM math?
