Order Reservation

Hi, does anyone know how Order Reservations work? What are the fields that are related quantity, allocated supply, demand etc are and how do they get updated? SuiteAnswers just carries basic information and there is not much help in this regard.

Would appreciate any advice, guidance in this subject. We have sales channels and want to make sure that these reservations take place in real time.

We have set up allocation schedules to run every hour but each time it takes 3.5 hours to complete. Is there a way to speed this up?
