In our previous article, NetSuite Next | Key User Interface Elements, we introduced the primary user interface components that help users navigate and work efficiently in NetSuite Next. In this article, we take a closer look at one of those components: the role switcher.
The role switcher is located in the lower-left corner of the NetSuite Next interface, next to the Explore menu icon.
The role switcher allows users with access to multiple roles or accounts to quickly switch between them without navigating through additional menus. This feature is especially useful for users who perform different responsibilities within an organization, such as administrators, managers, accountants, or support personnel.
In addition to role switching, the role switcher provides access to many of the same account-related options available in the Profile Menu, including preferences, help resources, and sign-out options.
role switcher menu / profile menu
The role switcher menu / profile menu provides quick access to role, company, and account-related options. Users can switch roles or companies, manage preferences, access help resources, view account information, and sign out.
Avatar
The avatar is the user image or initials associated with the current user. In NetSuite Next, the avatar is also displayed in the upper-right corner of the Explore menu. Selecting the avatar opens the Profile Menu, where the avatar appears together with user and role information.
In the role switcher, the avatar helps users confirm which user profile is currently active.
Name
The Name displays the name of the signed-in user. This helps users verify that they are working under the correct user profile, especially when switching between roles or companies.
Role
The Role shows the user's current active role, such as Administrator. The selected role determines the permissions, records, pages, dashboards, and features available to the user in NetSuite Next.
For example, a user signed in with the Administrator role may have access to configuration and setup options that are not available to other roles.
Switch Company
The Switch Company option lets users change the active company or account, depending on the companies available to them. This is useful for users who work across multiple companies or NetSuite accounts.
All My Roles and Companies
The All My Roles and Companies option displays the complete list of roles and companies available to the user. Users can use this option to review their available access and switch to another role or company as needed.
Set Preferences
The Set Preferences option opens user preference settings. Users can update personal settings such as language, date and number formatting, time zone, appearance, and other preferences that affect their NetSuite experience.
Help Center
The Help Center option opens NetSuite Help Center resources. Users can access product documentation, help topics, and guidance for using NetSuite features.
Exit NetSuite Next
The Exit NetSuite Next option lets users leave the NetSuite Next experience and return to the previous NetSuite experience. This option is available for existing customers who have access to both experiences.
About
The About section displays account and product information, such as the NetSuite version being used and the account number. This information can be helpful when contacting support or confirming account details.
Sign Out
The Sign Out option ends the current NetSuite session and signs the user out of the account.
