The maximum number of objects displayed per Catalog folder needs to be greatly increased more than 3

Only 300 objects are displayed (in alphabetical order) per folder in the OTBI (OBIEE) Catalog.

If a new object which is alphabetically later in the list is added to a full folder with 300 objects, the added object does not appear in the folder. However, if the same object is again copied and pasted into the full folder, the overwrite confirmation box appears. The system knows that the object already exists in the folder but doesn't display it if there are 300 objects already there that are earlier, alphabetically.

This is a HUGE issue for our BI Authors because they are unable to find the alphabetically later objects by browsing the folder contents when creating a dashboard. However, search in the Catalog folder works but requires the Author to know a part of the object name. This display issue also makes the selection process for object migrations more complicated and time-consuming.

Had not noticed this likely because we do not have that many objects altogether in one folder, but it sdouns like an important limitation.

Have you experienced limitations with the name lenght of an object?

Hi Marcelo,

Yes, it's unusual! We are using a standardized folder structure for the different object types so that referential integrity is preserved when migrating objects/dashboards from DEV to TEST to PROD. It works quite well for us, except for the 300-object limitation we've recently hit in the folder which contains all of our Analyses for Dashboards. We have an SR currently open, but I forgot to put it in the ER. I'll try to edit it and add the SR.

We haven't run up against a name length limitation yet, but we also try to keep our names concise.

Thanks for the comments Our company uses lots of folders and subfolders.
I realize this approach helped us to avoid reaching 300 catalog objects per folder.

I also hear you about the promotion dev -> test -> prod. Tricky.

This is mission critical for utilizing streamlined and architected folder design to support automated backups and report development lifecycles. But now we cannot see the analysis to add it to a dashboard? What a ridiculous limitation in a modern system.

Come on Oracle - do better

It makes automation so hard when you are constantly navigating to different folder structures. But if they cannot fix this we may be up for rearchitecting.

As of OTBI 22A (FMW 12c), the number appears to have been increased to 1000.
