Our admin is currently away and I was tasked with "keeping the lights on".

Recently one of my team members was playing around in our DEV environment and seems to have added something to our OBIEE server?

When I log into oracle enterprise manager I see the following

1.jpg

The one item "default_web" is not expected, and I tried to hit the "Delete" button but hit the following error

2.jpg

I thought maybe something was hanging somewhere and tried to re-start everything and also hit the following error

3.jpg

When I try to log in to our application OBIEE 11.1.1.7.14025 it looks like everything is up and running?

But looking in the admin console its showing 1 application is down - which is the one above that I tried to delete to no avail.

What am I missing? I just want to get rid of that one server

Im not even sure where to begin to even google to read up on how to get rid of this item.

Ok, have a minute now. Looks like an additional WLS server was installed but that seems a bit heavy stuff for "playing around".

Anyways go to the WLS console rather than Enterprise Manager and see what's what there: yourserver:port/console rather than yourserver:port/em. Then check under environment -> Servers:

Have a look whether that's actually a properly installad server or a botched / corrupted one and if push comes to shove then lock the config and drop the server. Just make sure you backed everything up before and that server wasn't created for some reason you're not aware of...i.e. ask around first.

Im pretty sure its a botched/corrupted one as when I asked around the developer mentioned "oh yah I think I saw something like that" .....

I locked the config and dropped the server from the WLS but I still see it listed in OEM and shows the server is down?

I cant seem to delete it =/

No chance you have a backup from before that was added? Removing corrupt installs sometimes is simply not possible.

Argh - no back up that I am aware of.

Actually now that you mentioned that, how would one create a back up?

I can try searching around to see what we may have, not sure if its a single file of some sort (fingers crossed) ?

Depends on your server. With Linux you can for example just back up the whole install folder of OBI and boom you got your whole env
