Map Layer for Zip

We have a common requirement to analyze data about applicants and employees by their home zip code, especially given some challenges with recurrent city names. There is a delivered map layer at this site for US Zip Codes: https://www.oracle.com/business-analytics/data-visualization/geo-layers/

However, the JSON file does not properly treat zip codes with leading zeroes. For example, Cambridge MA has this value for the zip: "ZIP":"US-2138" which does not match the 02138 text field in our dataset. We were able to modify the JSON file usually a python script to fix this, but it would be even better a.) if this (corrected) map layer was available by default (and maintained as new zip codes are created) or b.) if the Geo layer website on the Oracle site had an accurate zip code JSON file.

Thank you for your consideration!

Just bringing this back to the top—we’d really appreciate the addition of a usable map layer that displays shaded cities and towns using gradient colors to represent scale, rather than relying on individual map points.

  • Hello @shaffner and @Vaughn Sousa , thanks for your inputs. It seems there are two different topics, probably worth having two threads.

    • Data Map layer for Zip codes : requirements/needs on detail level (how granular and detailed is the shape definition of the zip code), recency (zip codes definition change regularly), coverage (US/Worldwide) are important aspects there, as well as licensing for the data itself. For US or few other OECD countries, there are some public versions of zip codes geojsons available on the web, that can be uploaded into OA. We are currently working on a solution to present map layers based on APIs (Vector shapes) that should ease a lot of these challenges. We hope to get back to you on this within next quarters - not 100% sure - will keep you posted.
    • For the cities gradient colors, that makes sense as well, thanks for the suggest. We don't really have this as part of our default map backgrounds, so a custom reference layer may be a good solution. Vaughn, can you precise that 'scale' means surface size of the city limits ?

Thanks both of you for your valuable contributions !
