OBIEE 11g and Oracle Database 11g to 12c upgrade.

Hi All,

We are planning to upgrade the Oracle Database and OBIEE 11g version to 12c version.

Can someone please help me to know the overall procedure to do that and also to know the prerequisite. it would be great if anyone assist me. thank you in advance.

Current Setup details :

DB version : Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.2.0

OS : Oracle Linux Server release 6.5

OBIEE 11g version : 11.1.1.7.141014

64 bit architecture.

OBIEE 11g to 12c is an out of place upgrade, so you have to install OBIEE 12c from scratch and at some point you will be able to migrate your content. The documentation cover that.

For your DB upgrade you can decide when you do it: upgrade the DB on your current OBIEE 11g and once done start the OBIEE 12c upgrade? Keep OBIEE 11g on DB 11g and install OBIEE 12c on DB 12c? Upgrade OBIEE 12c on your DB 11g and once done upgrade your DB 12c?

Depends a bit on what you chose to do ....

DB 11g to 12c upgrade is out place upgrade or in place upgrade. Whether do I need to upgrade in existing one or install DB 12c freshly and migrate the content.

Well, I'm sure the Oracle doc (or even just Google) have the answer for that...

In any case there are many Database forums next to this one focused on OBIEE where you can for sure have all the answers on how to upgrade your database.

For the relation with OBIEE as said it's all about how do you plan your upgrade...
