OAC Light weight authoring experience
There are currently 2 broad personas for OAC
- Authors
- Consumers
Authors is a very broad category with a wide range of artifacts creation such as Workbooks, Datasets, Dataflows etc. Fine Grain Permissions allow further control to limit authoring experience to just Workbook.
There is a 3rd category of personas that fall in between Authors & Consumers and they are the Business Users. Business Users often need a quick authoring experience with no exposure to the advanced authoring experience that Authors have in the product.
This idea proposes a Light Weight Authoring (LWA) experience for Business Users with limited authoring capabilities
- Business Users will create a Workbook, launch the LWA and select a pre-defined layout for the canvas
- Quick authoring starts with library of visualizations (Watchlists)
- Business Users will drag/drop the visualizations from Watchlists into the Layout containers
- Business users should be able to manipulate the viz definition ie change columns of the vis in the canvas. BUT the data panel is never shown in LWA. Grammar targets will show an option to add columns which will display a curated set of columns for the user to select
- When a viz from watchlist is added to the canvas, Auto Insights visualizations will be available (if the datasource is enabled for Auto Insights)
- User can also ask the AI Assistant and add the insights to the canvas
- Save the workbook and share with other users
This feature will enable self service analytics for the Business Users.
