I had created a roster report for employees to run which will generate a list of employees and the language that they speak in case they need a translator. However, I am unable to run the report when testing as an employee. Oracle suggest that the role Human Resources Analyst is required for the Workforce Profiles - Person Profile Real Time subject area.

Without granting them the role, is there a way to add a privilege rather to the employee's role that will allow them to run this report?

Hi Ratha,

The answer is yes. For all subject areas you can create a custom read only role. You do this because you want some users to be able to "VIEW" information but to not be able to take any action to "DO" anything like create or update or delete transactions or make configuration changes.

A bit of whispers here. Human Resource Analyst is NOT required. But it IS one of the one or more job roles out of the box that includes the duty role required for a user to query that subject area without getting an error at runtime when they issue sql by running the analysis or report in OTBI that uses that subject area.

which out of the box is inherit by

Human Resource Analyst

To a create a custom read only role for analytics do steps;

Step 1: As IT Security Manager in Tools work area Security Console, copy job role Human Resource Analyst, for example Custom Human Resource Analyst Read Only, keep the data security policies, delete all function security policies, delete all roles except for the duty role required for the subject area Workforce Profile Transaction Analysis Duty.

Step 2: In My Enterprise work area Setup and Maintenance task Manage Data Role and Security Profiles create a custom data role for example "Custom Human Resource Analyst Read Only - All Persons" which inherit custom job role Custom Human Resource Analyst Read Only then select the security profiles for example out of the box person security profile View All People. Go down the train track for each profile.

Step 3: Grant only the data role to your user or a custom copy or role Employee. The user will inherit the job role and the duty role from the data role.

NOTE an alternative method exists using profile options to make the out of the box roles read only.
