DV vs. Classic Hierarchies
I have a client does not like the expanded drill down option in the DV hierarchy tree. Does anyone know if we can duplicate the hierarchy functionality on a column that in OBIEE Classic in DV.
In Classic when you click on a column or data element and that column is part of a hierarchy it automatically sets a filter and adds the next column to the table/pivot. If it's part of a dashboard you can click a Return/Back link to drill up. In DV, you must to right-click to drill to the next level (does not work for the column header). When you drill down the column is replaced (not added) and a filter is set. But there is no way to drill up other than the undo button or to right-click and go find the drill-from column in the Drill to Attribute/Hierarchy column list. And even there is still the extra step to remove the filter set by the original drill action.

Hi @Carter Beaton I do not think it is possible because OBIEE Classic is Action-Framework-based drilling and DV does not use Action Framework and replaced with Context-menu drills
Please refer Drill in Results for DV and Action Framework in Classic for more details. Hope it helps!

Thank you for the clarity @RVohra. I will put this in at the idea lab if it's not there. I would like the drilling function to be a little more intuitive for users.

Which product are you using OAC, or OAS (which update?)?The reason I ask is because OAC will have new features iterated multiple times in an annual cycle; whereas, OAS is annually.
Not exactly "drill", but OAC and OAS 2025 have selection steps feature for Workbooks that may be useful to your Workbook design.
Short demo of the feature:

Thanks @SteveF-Oracle for sharing the video, very helpful!

Thank you for your reply @SteveF-Oracle. The product is OAC and on the November update. This issue is really just making drilling easier and more intuitive for the client. And unfortunately they don't like drilling from the hierarchy tree. From a dashboard perspective a Consumer user won't understand selection steps and right-clicking to drill doesn't have a return path other than the undo button (which also isn't intuitive). If you right-click to drill down, wouldn't you think to right-click to drill up. Plus if you drill and set other filters or other actions, you have to undo your way back through to drill back up.
I do appreciate your input and selection steps are a great tool for my Author rolled users.

As you mentioned earlier Carter, posting an idea asking for a better handling of hierarchies would be good.
DV comes from a state (IMHO) when it was all flat files and no hierarchies anywhere, therefore the need for a better navigation of hierarchies wasn't there. "classic" come from RPDs where you are supposed to have hierarchies for all your attribute logical tables (even more when working with cubes and their dimensions), therefore over the years they implemented a better handling for end users (and it was 10-15 years ago already).
If you do create an idea, post the link back here to also drive some up-votes from other users who will find this thread.
