Hi All,

I am testing OL7 to OL8 Migration for Oracle Analytics Server (7.6) & Oracle Http Server.

I was able to verify Oracle Analytics Server(7.6) on OL8.

For Oracle Http Server, we are using 12.2.1.4.0 version. when i run the silent installation on OL8, Installation was failing with the missing packages

 Starting check : Packages
Checking for binutils-2.23.52.0.1; found binutils-2.30-128.0.1.el8_10-x86_64.	Passed
Checking for compat-libcap1-1.10; Not found.	Failed
Checking for compat-libstdc++-33-3.2.3-x86_64; Not found.	Failed
Checking for libgcc-4.8.2-x86_64; found libgcc-8.5.0-28.0.1.el8_10-x86_64.	Passed

Checking for glibc-2.17-x86_64; found glibc-2.28-251.0.4.el8_10.27-x86_64.	Passed
Checking for glibc-devel-2.17-x86_64; found glibc-devel-2.28-251.0.4.el8_10.27-x86_64.	Passed
Checking for libaio-0.3.109-x86_64; found libaio-0.3.112-1.el8-x86_64.	Passed
Checking for libaio-devel-0.3.109-x86_64; found libaio-devel-0.3.112-1.el8-x86_64.	Passed
Check complete. The overall result of this check is: Failed

Problem: Some recommended packages are missing (see above).
Recommendation: You may actually have installed packages which have obsoleted these, in which case you can successfully continue with the install. If you have not, it is recommended that you do not continue. Refer to the product release notes to find out how to get the missing packages and update the system.
  Error: Check:Packages failed.

These missing Packages are not available for OL8.

Do we need to use Oracle Http Server 14c for OL8 ? Any suggestions on this?

Thank,

Srikanth.

  • Hi,

Oracle HTTP Server isn't an Oracle Analytics product. You should try to find a forum covering that product.

And your OAS 7.6 will be out of support in some weeks (2 months max), maybe worth upgrading that one too and not just the OS.

  • In case it does apply, not sure Oracle HTTP Server really requires those things, but I believe a number of products had some of those missing dependencies issues with OL8 when it was first made compatible with products (database, OAS etc.). Most of them got the reply to just ignore the missing packages when SRs were raised.

@Gianni Ceresa Thanks for the update.

i tried with -ignoreSysPrereqs flag installation went fine on OL8.

But I need to check if this creates any new issue further.

  • I imagine that if you want a really formal reply, you should go through a SR to get a formal reply which will cover you in case of issues. The certification matrix says it supports OL8. If you search that package with "OL8" you find the reference to some of those questions for others products, and always got the reply that you could just ignore it. I would just take that as valid and go forward with your job.

  • Concur with all Gianni mentioned.

OAS 2024 (7.6) moves to Sustaining Support in March and error correction support ends (no more critical patch updates or feature fixes)

One other thing you can do is search the My Oracle Support Knowledge base.
This is addressed in this knowledge article.

Installation of Fusion Middleware 12.2.1.4.0 Distributions on Red Hat Linux or Oracle Linux Version 8 Fail Checking EL7 Package Requirements (KB692205)

Also, we do not recommend collocating HTTP Server in an OAS home, you should install it separately in its own home if using the same server, or preferred, it is installed on its own server.

If you are doing a migration, you may want to consider waiting for OAS 2026, due out imminently and OL9.x (my opinion)

@SteveF-Oracle I will check My Oracle Support Knowledge base for OL8 issues on OHS.

Oracle HTTP Server is a separate instance. We have mandate to move away from OL7.

for OAS upgrade, We are waiting for OAS 2026 to come out. so we don't have to upgrade twice.
