Implement FAIDP on any Database
This idea is to change the FAIDP provisioning step to include an option for where to implement the data warehouse for example Azure or AWS.
When positioning FAIDP or at least the traditional FDI part of it, a constant objection from customers is they are a Microsoft house or they want to keep using Power BI but only have the free version included with their 360 enterprise agreement which can't connect to the FDI schema.
Currently, the only option to move data would be to copy the physical model in a 3rd party DB and user a data copy tool to move the data across. This is in the process of being improved with Data Share being part of the LA capability available to customers. Being able to implement directly onto the 3rd party database would be a giant leap forward in FAIDP being a true multi-cloud platform.
Benefits
- Customer can continue to use pre-existing analysis tools
- No need to copy data as the ETL would go straight into the 3rd party DB, improving efficiency of the overall ETL process and reducing data latency
- No need to duplicate infrastructure potentially reducing total cost of ownership
- Ability for customers to use tools such as frequent data refresh
- Reduced objections from customers when considering FAIDP
- With the AIDP being able to connect to data anywhere, the Fusion data can still be a core part of the architecture
- Reduced risk for customers getting the data copy wrong
Considerations for Oracle
- Would it be a full implementation including Physical and Logical Layers or just Physical layer of the DW
- Would it be worthwhile deploying OAC on top of other infrastructure
- Licensing 1 - Would it be possible to control the user base on the other infrastructure so customers could use the per user costing rather than per employee
- Licensing 2 - As there would be no usage/consumption of Oracle infrastructure, could there be a reduced license fee for pure data extract and modelling
- Moving data out of sovereign cloud infrastructure to a 3rd party. Would this only be available to commercial cloud customers?
