With continuous capabilities being brought into the modern Data Visualisation (DV) experience in OAC and FDI, a native equivalent to the View Selector from Classic Analysis / OBIEE is needed.
In Classic reporting, the View Selector allowed users to dynamically swap between different chart types, tables, or analytical views within a single container. Replicating this in DV currently requires complex workarounds:
- Freeform Canvas with Overlapping Visualisations: Unreliable and difficult to align across different screen resolutions and browser sizes.
- Parameters and Calculation/Data Actions: High maintenance overhead, requiring multiple parameters, conditional calculations, or custom data action links just to switch views.
Proposed Enhancement:Introduce a native View Selector visualisation (or container widget) in DV:
- Container Configuration: Allow dashboard authors to drop multiple visualisations into a single container/view selector frame.
- Drop-down / Tab Switcher: Automatically expose an interactive selector (drop-down menu or toggle bar) for end users to switch views.
- View Ordering: Provide straightforward controls in visualisation properties to rename, reorder, and hide/show specific views dynamically.
Business Value:
- Streamlines migration from OBIEE / Classic Analysis to DV in FDI and OAC.
- Keeps canvas dashboards clean, responsive, and easy to navigate without visual clutter.
- Reduces authoring time and ongoing maintenance overhead.
