difference between active directory implementation and oracle internet directory in obiee 11g

Hello Gurus,

Recently in my organization there is replacement of AD is started with OID.

I know that in the mechanism of external database authentication , we have tables which are called at rpd and we do authentication , this was in OBIEE 10g.

Second type of authorization method we followed which is LDAP , it could be any type of LDAP where all the groups and users are stored in LDAP manually.

My question are as per below ----

How OID is different from LDAP and whose performance is better for long term ?

Why we have to go for OID instead of LDAP ?

What MOD_WL_OHS configuration file contains ?

What is the roles of Oracle Access manager in OID ?

what is Oracle HTTP Server 11g Webgate ?

Why OAM Identity Asserter is important for both AD and OID , what exactly it does ?

Do I have to enable SSO mandatorily for OID ?

What is HWLB URL , what is its function ?

To quote wikipedia:

"The Lightweight Directory Access Protocol LDAP is an open, vendor-neutral, industry standard application protocol for accessing and maintaining distributed directory information services over an Internet Protocol (IP) network." (source)

You can't compare an Oracle product with a protocol. A protocol is not a product. There are many different products and those you can compare if you want. But not the protocol itself.

As this is the Business Intelligence Suite Enterprise Edition (OBIEE) forum, the previous answers actually are valid ...

As Christian said: you can't compare a tool with something that can be implemented in thousand of different ways, and for the performance it depends on how badly you configure it and design your trees inside.

Are you asking us why your organization is choosing OID instead of something else? Well ... better to fix a meeting with your organization CIO and ask him what's the strategic view of the company on the IT side (or, if you aren't aware of the reason of this decision, maybe it's not your job to be aware of it...).

So is there something more concret/practical? Because it's impossible to tell you why your company took one or the other and things like that.

They want to reduce manual effort to add group in Microsoft AD , in OID it is automatically added through sailpoint as soon as employee joins in organization.

This is what answer i was looking from both of you. I know AD is generic but i have given distinction as difference between microsotft AD which stores all users in some database of directory itself. However in OID , it uses all oracle tables is not it to store all of the user information. CN , SN are definately one of those common table however in case of AD it is pointed to Microsoft AD server however in OID it is pointed to OID server , I want to know what is the difference between both ???
