Auditlog for Oracle Analytics objects in OAS

Hi!

I am looking for audit logging for Analytics objects, such as users creating, modifying, or deleting datasets, dataflows, schedules, etc.

The traditional Presentation Services component provides such logging in domains/oas/servers/obips1/logs/auditjson.log, which contains audit information for catalog objects, including workbooks.

Is there a similar audit log for Analytics objects that are not stored in the catalog?

It would seem that an enterprise product such as OAS should provide an audit trail for these types of objects.

There were updates to the catalog that arrived in OAC early this year and as far as I know OAS 2026 continues Oracle's approach of bringing OAC features on-prem.

If you're on OAS 2026, create, edit and delete a test dataset and see whether anything lands in auditjson.log. I haven't been able to confirm this either way in the OAS docs.

Question was directed to OAS, not to OAC (blog , you are refering is solely for OAC). As far as I know, there is nothing implemented for OAS.

@Clare Murtagh Clare, could you be, pls, more specific about this feature (and its implementation in OAS). I cannot see any log file named auditjson.log in domain home of our OAS 2026 instance - do you have an idea, where it should be located and whether there is anything mentioned in documentation ?

In a clean (no bundle patch) install of OAS 2026 I have such a file in $DOMAIN/servers/obips1/logs/auditjson.log

Just a random guess remembering an issue Oracle didn't fix with OAS 2026: did you install jq on your OAS server? In 2025 some log files were changed to json by default and required jq to be installed to let the server also generate the .log version (or a config change was required).

As my auditjson.log contains json messages, that's maybe something to evaluate (I do have jq installed on my server).

But can't confirm what will be visible in the file as I don't have any DV object.

Based on what I've been able to verify, the auditjson.log file does exist in OAS and Oracle has previously confirmed that it is located under:

DOMAIN_HOME/servers/obips1/logs

In an Oracle Analytics community thread, Federico and Gianni (below - thanks @Gianni Ceresa!) specifically referenced auditjson.log in that location - see also post below:

I don't believe Oracle has explicitly documented whether the newer catalog and Dataset/DV audit events introduced in OAC January 2026 update are fully replicated in OAS 2026. The Jan-26 OAC update notes mention expanded catalog auditing capabilities, but I haven't found corresponding OAS documentation confirming the exact event coverage. If you can test it, as mentioned, & those actions generate entries, we can assume that the OAC catalog auditing enhancements have been carried across.

Thanks to both of you @Gianni Ceresa , @Clare Murtagh . I was able to find auditjson.log in DOMAIN_HOME/servers/obips1/logs (quite surprising location in BI Presentation Service component log folder ….) on our OAS2026 instance. And it looks like, that this log really tracks different "events" connected with DV objects (like creation/deletion of data se, connection, workbook), but also event connected with "classics" - like exporting analysis to Excel. Which is really hidden jewel and highly wanted feature (from governance perspective).

I was also looking into OAS2026 instance, which has been in-placed upgraded from OBIEE12c (actually several in-place upgrade from OBIEE12c —> OAS 5.5 —> OAS 5.9 … —> OAS 2026) and auditjson.log is not there. So there must be some configuration missing to make this logging in auditjson.log active. And this should be available either in OAS documentation or at least via some Knowledge document in Oracle support web.
