Hi,

Could you please let me know how to check if WLS is already installed? I am using a pre-built Developer DB VM having Oracle Linux OS.

I am preparing to install OBI EE 12.2.1.2 on this pre-built VM.

Thank you.

Regards,

Manoj.

....check whether there's WLS installed and you can see the files on the file system?

The question's a bit weird. If it's installed it's on the disk. That's all there's to it.

  • I would say you better ignore if it's there or not and install the one coming with OBIEE 12c (the right version) following the OBIEE install doc, so you don't have to first find it and second maybe fight with it because it's installed and setup for something else.

I assume you are using that VM to not have to install the DB, so fine for that side, but for the OBIEE part if you want to learn it completely just install the full OBIEE stack yourself.

The environment is fine (OS supported, java there), so do your install (check if you have enough free space on disk, a full OBIEE 12c install take at least ~10Gb).

    Hi Gianni and Christian,

    Thanks for your replies.

I am returning to UNIX based system after a long time. I have installed, reinstalled several versions of OBIEE on Windows. The experience was smooth. But UNIX based systems seem to be tedious, and consider the the new Virtual box interfaces.

I have already installed the latest sample app OBIEE appliance. But I want to learn the installation process on Linux as well. I tried installing Oracle database but could not start it up as the init.ora file was not found. Then I decided to take the shortcut by using the prebuilt database VM.

Second thing is I am trying to advance my career hence the above questions. I am imagining that I am on the field and my task is to install OBIEE but before that I need to send details to someone who may ask me questions like the above.

    Regards,

    Manoj.

    Hi Christian,

I have compared the OBIEE Sample app VM appliance and the DB VM. The DB VM doesn't have the WLS folder on the file system. So your reply is helpful.

    Thank you.

    Manoj.

  • Being you I would then go back and start from scratch, an empty VM. If you don't want to focus on the DB you keep it in the second vm and so your OBIEE vm is just for OBIEE, like a real setup would be (you will never install DB and OBIEE on the same server in a prod environment).

So you don't really need to ask yourself if weblogic is installed: OBIEE is a full set of tools, you must install it's own weblogic and not just any random weblogic (because the fusion middleware has many versions etc.). If you end up with an environment with pieces installed but not completely start clean, it's supposed to be an enterprise setup (clean), not a "windows laptop" approach or installed tool after tool and things like that.
