Have you tried changing the name using the properties by right clicking on the SA and selecting properties?

Have tried changing the custom display name in RPD presentation layer ., it was not working that's why raised a question in forum., thought there might be new approach in 12c.

Rename option is not there in OBIE 12c ., which version you are using?

Just to add something to what @FTisiot just said. In order for you to be able to rename an object, you need to check the box "Edit presentation names" in Tools -> Options
