Treat text as "HTML" missing in Data format dropdown

Hi All,

Oracle Business Intelligence 12.2.1.1.0

Non Admin Users need to insert HTML tag to format columns in report. After inserting HTML tag in column formula, users are unable to see "HTML" in data format drop down in column properties. They only see "Plain text" & "Plain text (don't break spaces)".

Users are assigned following privileges in OBIEE.

Save Actions containing embedded HTML

Save Content with HTML Markup

Access HtmlViewService Service

While debugging, we observed that if we assign "Save System-Wide Column Formats" privilege, then users can see HTML drop down. But we cannot assign this privilege to normal users in production. Please let me know if there is any other alternative to fix this or if it is a bug.

Thanks for the quick reply. As mentioned in the original description, user have "Save Content with HTML Markup" privilege. Its only working when we assign "Save System-Wide Column Formats" privilege.

My bad I didn't read it as the "privilege" (was thinking something else probably) ...

So your not-admin users can do all they need (edit column add their HTML) except defining the column as containing HTML as the format.

If you add a narrative to the analysis can you check the checkbox for HTML there?

Narrative view is working fine for non admin users. They can add html tags, select "Contains HTML Markup" box and output is also displayed correctly.

This is a long-time irritation with 11g (haven't checked 12c yet to see if it persists). I haven't yet found any workaround to the "Save System-Wide Defaults" privilege being required. Which means none of my users have the option to treat text as HTML in non-narrative views. No way am I giving them the system-wide defaults privilege.

I've wondered if this was intentional by Oracle, or just some crossed wires during development that never rose to the level of a bugfix. I certainly can't see any obvious connection between saving system-wide defaults and interpreting text as HTML.

I did some research and found this to be a Bug which is raised as part of enhancement request . This is currently with Development team for review.

That SR was originally created in 2015. Oracle has known about the problem for years.
