The title says it all.  I have downloaded a .bar file from my BICS system.  Is it possible for me to extract the .rpd from that .bar file and open it in the BI AdministrationTool?

Answers

  • A BAR file in general is just a "zip", so you can open it with any tool able to open a ZIP.

There inside you must find the RPD somewhere (there must be few folders for RPD, catalog and security).

The next challenge will the password for the RPD : no idea where you can find that one ...  (can't remember if BICS ask you to enter one when creating the BAR)

As per this article the lift and shift to BICS is a one way process. You can't make changes to the uploaded model, but have to work with the local copy.

Gianni, I had assumed that the .bar was just a .zip file.  But after downloading it, 7-zip says that it is not a valid archive file.  'Can not open ... as an archive'.  I have downloaded the snapshot twice - same results.

Thank you for the information, Sherry.  It isn't an answer to my exact question, but it is good to know.

  • That's what I wasn't sure anymore by not having a BAR around: BICS bar are "protected", so can't be opened as easily as BARs from 12c / OAC.

That's what it "felt like" to me as well, Gianni.  Not the answer I wanted, but I think it's the correct one.  Correct Answer awarded.  As usual, thank you for your excellence.
