Use value from one column in another column

Hi,
Oracle Business Intelligence 11.1.1.9.0
In one of the column for my Analysis, I have a complex formula which also calls a database package function using EVALUATE. I want to add another column with some CASE WHEN condition based on this first column. However for this second column, when I go to the "Edit Column Formula" and click on "Formula" button and select the first column, it brings in the entire complex formula. I was looking if there is any better way to use the column from the first column in the second column.
I understand I can create a repository column and avoid some of the formula duplication but since this is an one-off request, looking for some solution in the presentation.
Thanks as always for all your help.
