Multiple Oracle Home after upgrading OBIEE12c and applying patchset

Hi,
Currently we are upgrading the OBIEE version from 12.2.1.1 to 12.2.1.4. Bit of history over the period of time we have moved from 10g to 11g and to 12c.
Directory structure before upgrading the OBIEE from 12.2.1.1 to 12.2.1.4:
Oracle_Home : ../oracle/product/Oracle_Home
Domain Home: ../oracle/product/Oracle_Home/user_projects/domains/bi (default)
Config Folder : ../Oracle_Home/user_projects/domains/bi/config/ (default)
When we upgraded we have to create a new Oracle Home - ../oracle/product/Oracle_Home_12.2.1.3.0. We were not able to create new recommended folder structure as this is an upgrade (not fresh install) as per Oracle Documentation - https://docs.oracle.com/middleware/bi12214/lcm/BIEIG/GUID-16F78BFD-4095-45EE-9C3B-DB49AD5CBAAD.htm#ASINS338
Hence after upgrading the OBIEE version to 12.2.1.4:
New Oracle_Home : ../oracle/product/Oracle_Home_12.2.1.3.0
Domain Home: ../oracle/product/Oracle_Home/user_projects/domains/bi
Config Folder : ../Oracle_Home/user_projects/domains/bi/config/
As per Oracle document, after upgrading OBIEE to 12.2.1.4, I have applied the latest patchset -Patch 28500593 ( Doc ID 2070465.1 ). I have applied the patch set to new oracle home ../oracle/product/Oracle_Home_12.2.1.3.0, although my domain home is still under the old structure - ../oracle/product/Oracle_Home/user_projects/domains/bi.
Please can you let me know whether this is fine and also which config file in OBIEE determine new Oracle home path.
Best regards,
Rajesh Dhanapal.

Sorry but why did you call your folder "Oracle_Home_12.2.1.3.0" if it's OBIEE 12.2.1.4 ?
The issue is your initial first 12c install didn't adopt the correct structure, when you start with the domain inside the product folder, this one will have to stay forever ....
But it isn't a big deal, the oracle home isn't dual but just one: the new 12.2.1.4 version.
From the old folder structure it's only the domain which matter, the rest is like if it doesn't exist anymore.

Hi Gianni,
Thanks for your swift response.
Because the Fusion middleware version was 12.2.1.3.0.
I am totally with you since the first install was started with this directory structure, now its very difficult to move unless we plan to do fresh installation of OBIEE 12.2.1.4
But all OBIEE start and stop scripts should be executed from old Oracle home.

Yes, it will be confusing and you better document it more than usual.
It's one of the sad issues you bring with you for long ...

Yes will do. Thank you very much.
Also when I applied the critical patch Patch 28500593. The patch was applied to new Oracle Home and I could not see updated OBIEE version from the front end and Oracle have already mentioned in Doc ID 2289049.1.
So going forward the patches will be applied to new oracle home and domain will still exist in the old path. Will this be fine?
Is there any Oracle Home reference in the bi domain please ?
