Difference between query tools and reporting tools

Hello All,

I often hear term query tools and reporting tools in Analytics.
However need to know what is difference between query tool and reporting tool?
Can you please give examples of query tools and reporting tools offered by Oracle and some other non oracle popular query tools and reporting tools?
How query tools and reporting tools are infracting with data base, i.e., examples of connector, interface , protocol, uni directional or bi directional communication ?
What all standards data security features required on premises and on cloud environments to ensure that query tools and reporting tools are eligible to get deployed in data warehousing/operational reporting environment?
Is plain SQL is allowed on cloud environment to access data from data base on cloud environment. If no then why so?
